2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid vs. 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan

Toyota and Volkswagen are two popular car brands in the industry, known for its classy collection of vehicles. Two of them include the 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan and the 2020 Toyota RAV4 Hybrid. Let us do a brief comparison to understand the key differences between these models.

Design & Style

The Tiguan is available in three styles, including all-wheel-drive models and front-wheel-drive models. Standard features include heated steering wheel, power-adjustable driver's seat, heated front seats, genuine leather upholstery and cloth upholstery. While the cabin looks good, it does not really match up to the expectation like other rivals.

On the other hand, the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid is a 2-row SUV that comes standard with cloth upholstery. Other seating upgrades include heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, 8-way power-adjustable seat and rear seats. There's a decent amount of space in the front and back rows, and the seating position is excellent.

Technology & Safety

2020 comes with standard features including Wi-Fi hot spot, USB port, Bluetooth, 6-inch screen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Most of the top-notch features are optional, including USB ports, a premium stereo, satellite radio, HD Radio and 8-inch screens. The infotainment is easy to operate, but the touch screen graphics is not that good. Newly added safety features include pedestrian detection, automatic emergency braking, forward collision warning, rear cross-traffic alert and blind-spot monitoring.

The 2020 RAV4 Hybrid comes with a 6-speaker stereo, satellite radio, Bluetooth, USB port, Wi-FI hot spot, Apple CarPlay, Android Auto and 7-inch touch screen. Several tech upgrades includes JBL premium stereo, moonroof, wireless charging, navigation and 8-inch screen. The Hybrid version comes with a rearview camera, Toyota Safety Suite including lane departure warning, automatic high-beam headlight, braking system and pedestrian detection.

The 2020 Volkswagen Tiguan comes with an underpowered 184-HP engine mated to an 8-speed transmission. It does generate enough power for the daily commute, but the acceleration can be really sluggish on the highways.

On the other hand, the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid comes with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine mated to a variable automatic transmission. It has a much quieter engine and offers brisk acceleration in no time. There's plenty of muscle to drive around the town, and also on the highways.

The Bottom Line

Unlike most competitors, the 2020 RAV4 Hybrid offers spacious seating across all the rows and has one of the largest cargo space in this competitive class. The RAV4 hybrid has a long list of features to offer, and very few rivals can match up to the expectation of a world-class model like RAV4 hybrid. Tiguan has its own attributes to offer, but not enough to beat RAV4 Hybrid.
