About Blauvelt, NY 

Blauvelt gets its name from Dutch settlers who were among the first Europeans to set up homes in the area. This hamlet with a population of about 6,000 people was also the home of Camp Bluefield, a large rifle range that was used to train members of the New York National Guard between the first and the second world wars. Later, this rifle range was converted to the Blauvelt National Park.
